This homeschool curriculum for Ancient History is appropriate for all of your students in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th Classes, alongside their class-specific curriculum(s) for such things as reading, handwriting, maths, etc. (sold separately). This is an exciting and engaging way to study as a group!, and we are sure that your whole family will enjoy learning about the earliest times, together. We’ll study Ancient History this year–Ancient Egypt and the Old Testament, prehistoric and Celtic Ireland, Greece of the philosophers and, finally, Ancient Rome, ending just before the coming of Our Lord Jesus Christ. Subjects covered in this course: History, Geography & Timeline, Religion read-alouds, poetry and fables, Earth Science and Irish Nature Study and the Fine Arts.
During this period of schooling, we are very much focused on producing children who love reading, who are excellent readers themselves and who are becoming proficient at handwriting, spelling and grammar. We work on our reading skills by reading the engaging living books that we have assigned, and we work on our spelling and grammar skills by seeing many words spelled and used correctly as we read and explore great literature. This method of schooling combines and interweaves as many subjects as possible to ensure the child is engaged and truly learning, all without time-consuming and mindless workbooks!
Our school year is divided into four separate and distinct Terms, during which we will focus on a particular aspect of Ancient History. Throughout the year, we will utilise a number of living books to fully immerse ourselves in the particular time periods. We also use a craft book to make history come alive for our students and we will enjoy learning some basic Space & Earth Science and Nature Study.
