Authentically Catholic, Faithfully Irish

Supporting Catholic Homeschoolers in Ireland:

(Hedge)School Tours

We are big on community, fellowship and socialisation opportunities for our children (and ourselves!).

To support this, we at The Hedge School organise 3 to 4 (Hedge)School Tours per school year at various Heritage Sites and other Sites of Interest throughout the Island of Ireland.

We provide:

  • Free/Reduced cost admission
    • Usually free for children and reduced cost for adults
  • Facilities for a picnic lunch (BYO) for free play
  • A complimentary Activity Pack to support your children’s learning at home
    • Suitable for all ages: Activities are arranged by age

Check out the places we’ve been this year so far!

Spring 2024 (Hedge)School Tour

The Rock of Cashel

  • One of Ireland’s most well known national monuments
  • St. Patrick baptised the King of Munster here!
  • One of the best collections of Celtic medieval architecture in Europe!

We had two Tours for this Site–families with mostly Primary-age children in the morning, followed by families with mostly Secondary-age Students in the afternoon. The two groups combined for one big picnic lunch in between the tours!

We had over 125 persons signed up for this outing!

Autumn 2023 (Hedge)School Tour

Glendalough

  • St. Kevin came to Glendalough and founded an important Monastery there
  • St. Kevin completed his work and died a Saint in the year 618

We looked around the museum and watched an audiovisual presentation by the OPW. We then had a picnic and explored this monastic site. Some families then went to a nearby playground.

We had about 90 persons signed up for the Tour!
