This Course is suitable for the child homeschooling with another Curriculum or for Irish families living abroad and looking to include the Irish language in their studies. Following on from the material we studied last year in Fifth Class, we continue reading and writing in Irish and studying Irish Grammar.

The study and love of our native language is a very important subject. We encourage children to really love Irish by selecting a relevant and engaging textbook. We provide parents complete translations to the text and answers to the exercises in our custom-made Answer Key (written by a Gaelscoil teacher and included in your Course Manual). The textbook we utilise also offers a range of online resources to help non-natives (or mothers who haven’t studied Irish in a while!) teach Irish to their children—no experience necessary. The pronunciations given online are excellent to help your child learn to speak and understand Irish well!

Additionally, we work on your child’s reading and vocabulary with the delightful and vintage Soilse series. This aspect of the curriculum really increases this year–and more writing is required to go along with the Soilse readers, to better prepare your child for Secondary School.

Finally, as in Third through Fifth Class, we continue our study of Irish Grammar. We will complete our Irish Grammar text this year!

Placement: This course is intended for 11-12 year old children. It is suitable if your child completed Fifth Class Irish (at school or with us).

New to Irish? We’d really recommend starting with our Second Class Course as the reading and writing skills learned there are a good foundation for Third Class study and above. That said, if your student around Fifth or Sixth Class is very mature, a confident reader in English–and is otherwise dedicated to spending the time necessary to acquire a new language, you may find our Fourth Class Course a good fit.
