The Hound of the Lord: The Story of Saint Dominic Told by His Faithful Dog
The Hound of the Lord is a beautifully crafted story of Saint Dominic, the founder of the Dominican Order, as told through the eyes of his faithful canine companion, Torch. This heartwarming and unique perspective offers readers a deep, yet accessible, look into the life and challenges of this great saint, perfect for young hearts and minds.
Torch, a loyal and ever-watchful dog, narrates the journey of Saint Dominic, from his humble beginnings in the village of Caleruega, Spain, to his remarkable journey of preaching the Gospel throughout medieval Europe. Through Torch’s eyes, children and families alike will discover the struggles and triumphs that defined Dominic’s life—his tireless efforts to spread the truth of Christ, his commitment to prayer and his unwavering love for God and his fellow man.
Saint Dominic’s life is one of great dedication and sacrifice. Born in 1170, he was ordained as a priest and soon became famous for his preaching and missionary work. He founded the Dominican Order (also known as the Order of Preachers) to spread the Gospel, with an emphasis on education and the quest for Truth. His commitment to spreading the faith led to his canonization as a Saint in 1234, just a few years after his death.
For mums looking to share the story of a saint with their children, The Hound of the Lord offers a relatable and engaging way to introduce them to Saint Dominic’s courage, compassion and devotion to God. Torch’s lively descriptions bring Dominic’s story to life, making it accessible for children while capturing the essence of his holiness!
