About St. Francis

St. Francis of Assisi, born in 1181 in Italy, is one of the most beloved saints in Christian history. A son of a wealthy merchant, he lived a carefree and lavish life before experiencing a profound spiritual conversion. Embracing poverty, humility, and simplicity, he founded the Franciscan Order, dedicated to living the Gospel message in radical service to God and others. Known for his deep love of nature, animals, and the poor, St. Francis received the stigmata, the wounds of Christ, in his later years. He died in 1226 and was canonized a saint in 1228.
