Description

Our user-friendly, four-day-a-week Homeschool Curriculum Lesson Plans guide you through 36 weeks of day-by-day readings and activities with your child. With our selection of engaging stories and delightful characters, as well as fun activity and colouring books–your child will be excited to be homeschooling! Senior Infants is perfect for the child graduating from Junior Infants (with us or in a National School), or for the older child who is just beginning their education but cannot yet read or write. Here’s a overview of what you can expect from our Senior Infants Curriculum:

In our RELIGION course, we’ll study the history of our creation and God’s loving care for the Israelites, culminating in the greatest event in human history—the coming of Our Lord Jesus Christ and our Redemption. We’ll also study the lives of some of the most popular Saints and remember to ask for their intercession.

In our study of GAEILGE, we’ll learn a lot of new vocabulary and listen to a collection of songs and rhymes in Irish, thereby helping your child to hear the spoken Irish language and begin to use more and more Irish phrases himself. We’ll also use the Bua na Cainte series, with the coordinating stories. This aspect of our curriculum features a lot of audiovisual aids, to make the Irish language really come alive!

In the READING course, we will introduce your child to the world of words by teaching him to read! This is an exciting and very, very rewarding endeavour! We will utilise a home education classic and suggest the use of toy/or magnetic letters to ensure that the process of learning to read is as enjoyable as possible.

In the LITERATURE course, we’ll be reading several Good Books specifically written for the young child. We’ll work on listening and comprehension skills as we introduce your child to some of the best literature of our culture, at their own level. We’ll read a number of chapter books for children and a selection of fairy tales from Ireland and abroad!

In the HISTORY & GEOGRAPHY curriculum, we’ll look at our beautiful country from its earliest days and see how Catholicism has redeemed our pagan past and changed the Ireland of the Druids into the Ireland of the Saints. We’ll study a children’s picture book about Ireland’s History and her Saints.

In the MATHS aspect of our curriculum, we will utilise a simple workbook to introduce your child to basic maths concepts and to ensure they are well prepared for First Class maths.

In our study of SCIENCE, we will give your child a brief introduction to animals, the human body, basic physics & chemistry and the plant world. We’ll use a children’s encyclopaedia and a short workbook to introduce these concepts to your child and we will also have fun making a child-size model of the human body. Finally, we will spend a lot of time in nature exploring the world around us.

We will begin to learn HANDWRITING with a popular Irish school series! We provide lesson plans for both English and as Gaeilge versions of the text, allowing parents to simulate the Gaelscoil experience if desired!

Finally, in our study of the FINE ARTS this year, we’ll enjoy a beautiful ballet and then explore the various musical instruments in the orchestra. We’ll also examine 24 famous works of art in the Come Look with Me series of children’s art appreciation books.

In summary, this year we will continue the work begun in Junior Infants as we expand our understanding of the Faith and the world around us, and also prepare for the more rigorous work of First Class. We hope that you and your child will join us this homeschool curriculum, and our exciting look at the Good, the True, and the Beautiful!
